Think about the world for a moment and what it would be like if everyone really loved theirselves. If you love yourself, you lose all since of jealously or hate towards others. You love you! The world would be a much more beautiful place and the people on it happier and more peaceful. What if religions taught it was ok to love yourself first. When you love yourself it opens you up to experience not only God's love but true love from others and the ability to really love God and others in return.
If you can't look at yourself in a mirror then you know this is something you need to work on. You'll know when you truly start to love yourself. It's a whole and complete feeling. You love not only who you are, and know who you are, but you will love your life and your body and all the gifts God has given you. You'll be able to look yourself in the eye in the mirror and boldly say out loud without shame "I love you! And you are amazing! You are a beautiful creation of God's and you can do anything!" Practice working on that.
Speaking your power out loud may at first be awkward or embarrassing but doing it anyways allows you to build confidence and love in yourself. It empowers you and makes you bold. When you love yourself, you are confident and bold in a way that isn't boastful or judgmental, your not coming from a place of thinking or acting like you're better than anyone else, it's coming from a place of knowing and loving who you are. Do you know who you are? Not a title or a position, not your education level, not a mother, teacher, brother, child, activist or any other label. Do you know who you really are?
If you take away all the outside influences that make up who you think you are and that you use to describe yourself, and strip away all the accomplishments that you see as something that sets you apart from others, do you know WHO you are? Who are you? A journey of creating true self love is also a discovery of answering this question. It's spending time alone with yourself and God in quiet meditation and contemplation. It's putting your needs first and making time daily for yourself and your spiritual needs. It's being able to say no without apology to things you don't want to do.
And it's the ability to help and love others WITHOUT thinking of what you will get in return or what their reaction may be. It's being kind to yourself in your thoughts, words and actions. It's uplifting yourself instead of judging yourself or breaking yourself down. A special someone used the term "the whispers" for those voices that creep into your head and try to tell you what you should be doing and why, or what you're doing wrong or that you're being selfish. Self love is the ability to turn the whispers off and tell them to go away.
If you've been following along through the 7 Gifts and have been strong enough to start and keeping up with your daily practices then you have been traveling on your self love journey. You may not have even realized the changes in yourself but now know you love yourself. Confidence, elegance, boldness and kindness maybe some of the qualities you now see in yourself that maybe weren't there strongest.
If you've made it this far then do this act of self love: thank yourself for making the choice to change your life and taking action on it. Thank yourself for opening up and allowing yourself to get to where you are now because there's so much more to come and you can see that now. And you know you deserve that now. So really be grateful for you and the choice you made and actions you took. You changed your life!
If you haven't yet started the journey, made the choice, read the 7 Gifts, or decided to actually take daily action yet; it's never to too late to start! Miracles will happen for you if you open up to them. You can change and heal you life. No one can do it for you. No matter how many books or blogs you read, no matter how many people you talk to about your problems, no matter how many master healers or religious people you seek out, none of them can change your life. Only you can do that.
It takes strength and determination, commitment and motivation. Make the choice and follow through. You'll really love yourself for it! Please comment with your thoughts or questions and please feel free to share parts of your journey. Blessed Be!
